Leading Formula One drivers have threatened to boycott the Monza circuit because their pleas for improved safety are being ignored, according to reports. As a meeting of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) broke on Friday at the high speed Italian venue, members revealed that a public condemnation of Monza will be made next week unless their demands are met.

Their concerns centre on the close proximity of barriers, notably at the second chicane, and the use of gravel traps rather than the safer alternative of asphalt areas.
